9. Squeeze the receiver out of
the shield (like squeezing
toothpaste from a tube)
until the receiver is released
onto the clean surface. This
prevents the outside of the
shield from contacting the
surface of the receiver.
10. View the shield closely under adequate lighting. Inspect the shield for
any signs of damage or deterioration.
a. If a defect or malfunction of the shield is suspected, the healthcare
professional should retain the shield and contact Dexcom
Technical Support.
b. If there is no evidence of defect or malfunction, discard the shield.
11. Remove and change gloves before handling the receiver.
12. View the receiver closely under adequate lighting. Inspect the
receiver for any soil or signs of contamination to the receiver.
a. Discard the receiver if there is any indication of contamination,
such as dirt or spots of dried fluid.
b. Consider whether there has been incorrect shield application or
removal that potentially could lead to contamination.
c. If there is any doubt about contamination, assume it is
contaminated and discard the receiver.
Do not clean or disinfect the receiver once the shield is removed.
Cleaning and disinfection products could damage the receiver.
NOTE: When removing the shield, peel the receiver shield straight back.
While holding the receiver upside down over a clean table or surface,
squeeze the receiver out of the shield. Avoid manipulating the receiver
shield so that the shield exterior does not come into contact with the
receiver and gloves do not transfer material from outside the shield to
the receiver.
