MAINTENANCE

■ Troubleshooting

The following chart is designed to help you correct
problems which are not equipment malfunctions.

D Transceiver power

PROBLEM
Power does not turn ON
when the [POWER] switch is
pushed.

D Transmit and receive

PROBLEM
No sound from the speaker.
Sensitivity is too low, and
only strong signals are au-
dible.
Received audio is unclear or
distorted.
[ANT•METER]
does
function
Transmitting is impossible.
Output power is too low.
No contact can be made with
another station.
Transmit signal is unclear or
distorted.
Repeater cannot be ac-
cessed.
AM cannot be selected.
Transmitting is impossible in
AM.

POSSIBLE CAUSE
• The power cable is improperly connected.
• A fuse is blown.
POSSIBLE CAUSE
• The audio volume level is too low.
• The squelch is closed.
• The transceiver is in transmit.
• The antenna is not connected properly.
• The antenna for another band is selected.
• The antenna is not properly tuned.
• The attenuator is turned ON.
• The operating mode is not matched.
• The Passband Tuning function is turned ON.
• Noise Blanker functions when receiving a
strong signal.
• Preamplifier is turned ON.
• The Noise Reduction function is turned ON
and the [NR] control is too far clockwise.

• The Antenna Switch function has not been
turned ON.
• The operating frequency is outside the se-
lected ham band.
• The [RF POWER] control is set too far coun-
terclockwise
• The [MIC GAIN] control is set too far counter-
clockwise
• The antenna for another band is selected.
• The antenna is not properly tuned.
• The RIT or ∂TX function is turned ON.
• The Split function and/or Duplex function are
turned ON.
• The [MIC GAIN] control is set too far clock-
wise.
• The split or duplex function is not turned ON.
• The programmed subaudible tone frequency is
wrong.
• The 1200 MHz frequency band is selected.
• The 144/430/1200 MHz frequency band is se-
lected.
If you are unable to locate the cause of a problem,
or solve it through the use of this chart, contact your
nearest Icom Dealer or Service Center.
SOLUTION
• Re-connect the DC power cable correctly.
• Correct the cause, then replace the fuse with
an equivalent fuse.
( Fuses are installed in the DC power cable
and in the internal PA unit.)
SOLUTION
• Rotate the [AF] control clockwise to obtain a
suitable listening level.
• Rotate the [RF/SQL] control to 11 o'clock posi-
tion to open the squelch.
• Push [TRANSMIT] to receive or check the
SEND line of an external unit, if connected.
• Re-connect to the antenna connector.
• Select an antenna suitable for the operating
frequency.
• Hold down [TUNER] for 1 second to manually
tune the antenna. (HF/50 MHz frequency band
only)
• Push [P.AMP/ATT] to select "ATT OFF."
• Select a suitable operating mode.
• Hold down [PBT-CLR] for 1 second to reset
the function.
• Push [NB] to turn OFF the function.
• Push [P.AMP/ATT] one or more times to turn
OFF the function.
• Set the [NR] control for maximum readability.
• Set the Antenna Switch function to "Auto" or
"Manual" in the Set mode.
• Set the frequency to be within the selected
ham band.
• Rotate the [RF POWER] control clockwise.
• Set the [MIC GAIN] control to a suitable posi-
tion.
• Select an antenna suitable for the operating
frequency.
• Hold down [TUNER] for 1 second to manually
tune the antenna.
• Push [RIT] or [∂TX] to turn OFF the function.
• Push [SPLIT] and/or [DUP](F-2) (in the "M1"
screen) to turn OFF the function.
• Set the [MIC GAIN] control to a suitable posi-
tion.
• Push [SPLIT] and/or [DUP](F-2) (in the "M1"
screen) to turn ON the function.
• Reset the frequency.
• Select the HF/50/144/430 MHz frequency band. pp. 43, 61
• Select the HF/50 MHz frequency band.
