E Troubleshooting
The following chart is designed to help you correct
problems which are not equipment malfunctions.

e Channels are not programmed.
e The lithium backup battery is exhaust-
ed and channels are erased.
eThe DC power cable is improperly
connected.
e A fuse in the DC power cable is blown.
e For mobile operation, vehicle's battery
is exhausted.
e Volume level is too low.
e The squelch is closed.
e An external speaker or headphones
are connected.
e CW narrow mode is selected without
an optional FL-52A or FL-53A CW
NARROW
FILTER.
eThe
antenna
is
not
connected
properly.
e The coaxial cable is cut or shorted.
e An antenna not suitable for the oper-
ating frequency is connected.
eAn
antenna
is not properly tuned
when using an optional AT-130 HF
AUTOMATIC ANTENNA TUNER.
e The attenuator is ON.
e The preamp is OFF.
e The noise blanker is ON.
eThe preamp is ON.
e Receive signal is off frequency.
If you cannot solve a problem, contact your nearest
icom Dealer or Service Center.
e Ask your Icom
Dealer for channel
programming.
e Ask your Icom Dealer for backup bat-
tery replacement and
reprogramming.
e Reconnect the power cable correctly.
e Check for the cause, then replace the
blown fuse in the DC power cable with
a new one.
e Charge the vehicle's battery.
e Rotate the [AF] contro! clockwise to
obtain a suitable listening level.
e Rotate
the
[SQL]
control
counter-
clockwise to open the squelch.
e Disconnect the external speaker or
headphone plug.
e Ask your Icom Dealer for the FL-52A
or FL-53A installation, if required.
e Reconnect the antenna connector.
e Check the coaxial cable and correct
any improper conditions.
e Connect an antenna suitable for the
operating frequency.
e Push the [TUNE] switch to retune the
antenna.

the [PREAMP/ATT]
switch

time to turn OFF the attenuator.
¢Push the [PREAMP/ATT]
switch

time to turn ON the preamplifier, if re-
quired.
e Push the [NB] switch to turn OFF the
noise blanker.
e Push the [PREAMP/ATT]

times to turn OFF the preamp.
e Push the [RIT] switch and rotate the
[RIT] control to obtain clear audio.
