3. Slide the node out on its slide rails to the fully extended position.
You can perform most service actions when the node is fully extended from the rack on its slide rails.
You can leave the fibre-channel and Ethernet cables connected, if you are using the cable-management
arm and if you are not removing the node from the rack. If the location of the node in the rack is too
high or too low to work comfortably, you can remove the node from the rack.
4. When the node is completely turned off, remove the cable-retention brackets and disconnect the
power cables, as described in "Removing the cable-retention bracket" on page 29.
5. Optional: If you must remove the node from the rack to work on it, perform the following procedure
to remove all cables and remove the node from the rack:
a. To make sure that you can replace all cables in the same ports from which they were removed,
label the port position of each fibre-channel and Ethernet cable; then remove all cables from the
back of the node.
b. Remove the node from the rack and place it on a flat, static-protective surface. See "Removing the
SAN Volume Controller from a rack" on page 40.
6. From the rear of the operator-information panel assembly, disconnect the cable.
7. Use an object to push down on the release tab ( 2 in Figure 205).
Hold down the release tab and push the blue push point on the rear of the panel toward the front of
the node.

8. From the front of the node, carefully pull the assembly ( 1 ) out of the node while you move the
assembly slightly from side to side.
9. If you are instructed to return the operator-information panel assembly, follow all packaging
instructions, and use any packaging materials for shipping that are supplied to you.
Removing the SAN Volume Controller 2145-8A4 operator-information panel
You might have to remove the operator-information panel on a SAN Volume Controller 2145-8A4 due to
required maintenance.
Make careful note of the layout of the cables as you go through this procedure as they will need
replacing in the same position when you replace the operator-information panel.
Perform the following steps to remove the operator-information panel:
1. Turn off the node while ensuring that its data is mirrored and synchronized. See MAP 5350 in the
IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller 2145 Troubleshooting Guide for more information.
