LABEL
Encapsulation
Point-to-Point Tunneling Protocol (PPTP) is a network protocol that enables secure
transfer of data from a remote client to a private server, creating a Virtual Private
Network (VPN) using TCP/IP-based networks. PPTP supports on-demand, multi-
protocol, and virtual private networking over public networks, such as the Internet. The
ZyWALL supports only one PPTP server connection at any given time. To configure a
PPTP client, you must configure the User Name and Password fields for a PPP
connection and the PPTP parameters for a PPTP connection.
Nailed-up
Select Nailed-Up if you do not want the connection to time out.
Idle Timeout
This value specifies the time in seconds that elapses before the ZyWALL automatically
disconnects from the PPTP server.
PPTP Configuration
My IP Address
Type the (static) IP address assigned to you by your ISP.
My IP Subnet Mask
Your ZyWALL will automatically calculate the subnet mask based on the IP address that
you assign. Unless you are implementing subnetting, use the subnet mask computed by
the ZyWALL.
Server IP Address
Type the IP address of the PPTP server.
Connection
Type your identification name for the PPTP server.

Traffic Redirect

Traffic redirect forwards WAN traffic to a backup gateway when the ZyWALL cannot connect to the
Internet through its normal gateway. Connect the backup gateway on the WAN so that the ZyWALL
still provides firewall protection.
The following network topology allows you to avoid triangle route security issues (see the appendix)
when the backup gateway is connected to the LAN or DMZ. Use IP alias to configure the LAN into
two or three logical networks with the ZyWALL itself as the gateway for each LAN network. Put the
protected LAN in one subnet (Subnet 1 in the following figure) and the backup gateway in another
subnet (Subnet 2). Configure a LAN to LAN/ZyWALL firewall rule that forwards packets from the
protected LAN (Subnet 1) to the backup gateway (Subnet 2).
