Remote Control Card

The HP Remote Control board supports HP TopTools software and comes
installed in the HP NetServer LXr 8500 from the factory in PCI slot 2, due to its
boot order (Bus 0) and a required a cable connection to I/O baseboard. The I
cable for the HP TopTools Remote Control card is inserted into connector J1F1 on
the I/O baseboard. For more information on use of the Remote Control board, see
Server Management for the HP NetServer LXr 8500. See Figure 6-1 for location.
NOTE
The cable for the HP TopTools Remote Control card must be
connected to the I

IRQ Settings

The hardware interrupts (IRQs) are automatically assigned for each PCI slot and
embedded device in the HP NetServer. The automatic IRQ assignments are made
by the BIOS during the boot process. Additional IRQs are required beyond the
standard set of 15 since some accessory boards, like multi-port adapter boards,
may require more than one IRQ per slot. A special hardware feature (APIC)
eliminates interrupt conflicts by providing an expanded set of IRQs with up to
four dedicated interrupts for each PCI slot. Therefore, it is unnecessary to
manually assign interrupts for the following NOSs: Microsoft NT 4.0, Novell
NetWare 5, and SCO UnixWare 7.
NOTE
SCO UnixWare 7 requires installation of the OSMP module to
enable the APIC mode.
The automatic IRQ assignments used by the NOS are listed in Table 12-3, Chapter
12, "Troubleshooting" and cannot be changed.
NOTE
The (BIOS) Setup Utility provides a manual setting of IRQs,
but all these assignments are ignored by the NOSs listed above.

Boot Priority

The HP NetServer's boot order is determined by the slot location of the board.
Consider this when selecting a PCI slot on the I/O baseboard. This is especially
important, if your are installing a SCSI controller board. The SCSI controller's
boot priority will be set by the board's slot location. See Table 6-1 and Figure 6-1.
