2.3 Basic Operation of the Optimizer Smart Programmer Application
When the Optimizer Smart button has been selected from the Selector screen, the Intelio
Programmer will boot up and display the Optimizer Smart Programmer application. This
application can be used to interrogate and program the OPTIMIZER Smart IPG.
2.3.1 Communication with the OPTIMIZER Smart IPG
The physician can obtain data from the OPTIMIZER Smart IPG by means of the Legacy
Programming Wand, which must be placed over the patient's implant site.
Caution: The Legacy Programming Wand must be thoroughly cleaned between uses,
and draped when necessary, to prevent patient skin irritation or contamination.
2.3.2 Interrogation and Programming
The OPTIMIZER Smart IPG has a set of parameters that control its operation. The values
of these parameters are referred to as the device (parameter) values.
The Optimizer Smart Programmer application can read the device values by means of
the Interrogate command. This must be the first action carried out by the physician in
order to access information from the OPTIMIZER Smart IPG. If the interrogation process
is successful, the device values are loaded and displayed on the screen of the Intelio
Programmer. The values displayed on the screen of the Intelio Programmer are referred
to as the parameter values.
The physician can also view some of these values in a graphical representation.
The physician can review and modify the parameter values using the Optimizer Smart
Programmer application. The modified parameter values can then be transmitted to the
OPTIMIZER Smart IPG by means of the Program command.
Note that the modified parameter values displayed on the programmer screen are NOT
transferred to the IPG until the Program command is performed.
If the new parameter values do not yield the desired clinical effect, they can be cancelled
using the Undo command. This command resets the device parameters to those
previously programmed.
The Urgent command programs the OPTIMIZER Smart IPG with standard safe
parameter values (CCM OFF). The Urgent command may be initiated by tapping the
Urgent button in the Tool Bar.
Useful parameter combinations can be stored as standard files (these are also,
sometimes, called "user presets"). The file extension for a standard file is ".tip". After the
creation of a particular standard, the standard can be loaded for patients who require a
similar set of programmed values.
The Open and Save commands of the Optimizer Smart Programmer application read
and write data from and to standard (.tip) files. As such, the Optimizer Smart Programmer
application can also be used as an editor of standards (see Section 7.5).
2.3.3 Lead Impedance
The Optimizer Smart Programmer application can be used to measure the impedance of
the ventricular leads (see Section 7.15).
2.3.4 Data Download
The OPTIMIZER Smart Programmer application can be used to download and view
statistics stored on the OPTIMIZER Smart IPG (see Section 7.16).
2.3.5 Closing the Programmer Application
Tapping the "X" in the top right-hand corner of the Optimizer Smart Programmer
application screen will close the application and return the programmer to the selection
screen.
