7.10 Resetting the OPTIMIZER Smart IPG
The OPTIMIZER Smart IPG has protective mechanisms that maintain the internal consistency of
the system. These mechanisms detect when an internal discrepancy (for instance, clocks not
oscillating at the expected frequency) occurs.
If in the unlikely event a malfunction of this type occurs, the OPTIMIZER Smart IPG will place
itself into a safe state referred to as "DOWN" mode. In "DOWN" mode, the OPTIMIZER Smart
IPG does not deliver CCM therapy, and in some cases it does not even sense cardiac events.
This status can be changed only by resetting the OPTIMIZER Smart IPG using the Optimizer
Smart Programmer application under physician supervision.
If an OPTIMIZER Smart IPG device reverts to DOWN Mode, when attempting recharge, the
OPTIMIZER Mini Charger will turn on the "Call Doctor" indicator and will display Numerical Code
"0".
To reset the OPTIMIZER Smart IPG:
1. Place (or replace, if necessary) the Legacy Programming Wand over the OPTIMIZER
Smart IPG implant site.
2. Tap the Reset button on the Tool Bar
If the OPTIMIZER Smart IPG is successfully reset, the Programmer will display the message
"Reset Device OK".
However, if the Legacy Programming Wand is not well positioned over the implant site, the
resetting operation may fail. If a failure in communication occurs, the Programmer will display the
message "Reset Device Error" along with the options Retry and Cancel.
Retry can be performed by repositioning the Legacy Programming Wand and selecting the Retry
button.
IMPORTANT: If a unit is found in "DOWN" mode, please document the event before resetting the
device. After recording the cause of the reversion displayed by the Optimizer Smart Programmer
application, please call the 24-hour Support Hotline (866-312-5370). Also, please provide details
of the programmed mode in which the reversion occurred, and any conditions that may have
caused the device to revert to "DOWN" mode.
The conditions that would cause the IPG to revert to DOWN Mode are as follows:
electromagnetic interference
internal software conflict
7.11 Initiating CCM Delivery
7.11.1 Operating Mode Options
The operational status of the OPTIMIZER Smart IPG is set by the Mode parameter on
the Device Bar. Tapping the Mode parameter will cause the Mode pop-up menu to
appear.
