The SNMP Protocol Settings page allows you to Enable SNMP and to input the
Community Name.

Enable SNMP
Left click this box to enable Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP). SNMP is a
network protocol used to manage TCP/IP supported systems. This protocol provides
functions that enable you to access data objects whose definitions are located in the
Management Information Base (MIB).
Note:
SNMP compliant devices, called agents, implement the various system-related MIBs.
They also implement the AMI ManageTrends software MIB. For all supported MIBs, an
agent can send information to the SNMP requester.
To send SNMP traps, the SNMP protocol does not need to be enabled.
Community Name
Enter the community name that your network uses.
A community name is a secret identity based on plain-text that is used to authenticate
queries to agents of managed network devices. A read-only community name allows
systems to gather statistics from your SNMP device. The most commonly used community
name is public.

To save changes, left click the Apply button. To cancel without saving changes, left click
the Close button.
The latest MIB for the StorTrends iTX software can be found on the StorTrends
software CD.
By default, the ManageTrends® Management Suite can discover your Storage
Appliance only if the community name is set to public and SNMP is
