Volume

A Volume is a fixed amount of storage. One Volume can span over more than one
physical hard disk drive. It all depends on how you set up your Volumes. The controller
treats one or more hard disk drives or unused space on a hard disk drive as a single array.
A Volume provides the ability to concatenate storage from various hard disk drives
regardless of the size of the space on those hard disk drives. A Volume is useful in
scavenging space on hard disk drives unused by other arrays. A Volume does not provide
any performance or data redundancy benefit.

WAN

Wide-Area Network. Two or more LANs connected together.

WDS

WAN Optimization Data Service. In StorTrends iTX it is used to improve the speed of
Remote Replication and Wide Area Data Transfers by not moving the same data or
duplicated data over the network.

WINS

WINS is a system that determines the IP address associated with a particular network
computer. This is called name resolution. WINS supports network client and server
computers running Microsoft® Windows® operating system and can provide name
resolution for other computers with special arrangements. You must enter the IP Address
for that server if one is used in your network.

WWN

World Wide Name is a SAN terminology used to identify every node in the SAN
network with a unique name. In IP SAN, all nodes (initiators, targets, management) must
have a WWN.

XFS

XFS combines advanced Journaling technology with full 64-bit addressing and scalable
structures and algorithms. This combination delivers the most scalable and high-
performance file system in the world and is fully supported by the StorTrends® iTX
software.
