Step 2 : Create a Storage Pool

A Storage Pool is basically a collection of your Logical Disks.
Step
Action
1
Make sure that you are logged into the Storage Appliance and have already created 1 or
more Logical Disks. Click on the Create Storage Pool link.
2
In the Enter Storage Pool Name field, select a LD from the list, and then enter a name for
your Storage Pool. The Storage Pool Name must be alphanumeric, not have any spaces
and be between one and 63 characters in length. If you plan on utilizing the SAR feature,
upper case characters should not be used for this container or volume names either.

By default, the Chunk Size is 64 KB.
4
Click on the Create button to create the Storage Pool.
5
Upon successful creation, the Storage Pool will become listed in the left frame under the
Storage Node in the tree menu.

Step 3 : Create SAN Volume

A SAN Volume is a block-level volume. This volume can be assigned a greater size than
the actual physical size of the storage device. For example, if the storage device has an
actual physical size of 500 GB, the user can assign a virtual size of up to 256 TB. Based
on the consumption of the storage device's physical capacity, more physical drive
capacity can then be added at a later time. This is called Thin Provisioning.
Note:
On the 1U units, Thin Provisioning is typically not used or is unavailable.
Step
Action
1
Make sure that you are logged into the Storage Appliance and have already created a
Storage Pool. Expand the Pool node located in the storage tree menu.
2
Click on the SAN Volume node.
3
The Create SAN Volume page will open. Select the type of provisioning that you want to
use.
If you select Thin, the volume can be assigned a size greater than the actual physical size
of the storage device. For example, if the storage device has an actual physical size of 500
GB, the user can assign a virtual size of up to 256 TB (per system). Based on the
consumption of the storage device's physical capacity, more physical drive capacity can
be added at a later time.
If you select Exact, the volume size cannot exceed the actual physical space available in
the storage device.
4
In the Enter Name field, enter a name for your SAN Virtual Volume. The SAN Virtual
Volume Name must be alphanumeric, not have any spaces and be between one and 63
characters in length.
Note:
5

the drop down menu to select either GB or TB depending on your desired configuration.

8
Upon successful creation, the SAN Virtual Volume will become listed in the left frame
under the SAN Volume Node in the tree menu.
