Notes (for display zone 4 with an -E87 with one display):
◆ There are no immediate plans to install an auxiliary heater in the Audi A3.
◆ If -E87 remains in operation after the ignition is switched off and if the display shows "1", locate and rectify
short to positive to connector -D- contact -10- using current flow diagram.
Display group 010:
Kick-Down switch, temperature switch for refrigerant, air conditioner compressor cut-in, high pressure switch
-F129/high pressure switch -G65 and actuation heated rear window

▪ Refrigerant temperature switch too "hot" (in dash panel insert).
0 = Temperature switch open (refrigerant temperature ok)
- Voltage at connector C, contact 6 greater 5V (with one -E87 with one display)
- Voltage at connector C, contact 6 greater 5V (with one -E87 with one display)
1 = Temperature switch closed (refrigerant temperature too high)
- Voltage at connector A, contact 11 lower than 5 V (with one -E87 with two displays)
- Voltage at connector C, contact 6 smaller than 5V (with one -E87 with one display)

0 = Output air conditioner cut-in "open"
- Voltage at connector C, contact 12 lower than 5 V (with one -E87 with two displays)
- Voltage at connector C, contact 1 smaller than 5V (with one -E87 with one display)
1 = Output air conditioner cut-in "closed"
- Voltage at connector C, contact 12 higher than 5 V (with one -E87 with two displays)

Notes on display zone 1:
◆ Checking the refrigerant temperature and the dash panel insert.
=> Electrical System; Repair group 90
◆ The "refrigerant temperature" wiring from -E87 to the dash panel insert does not exist in all model year 1997
and 1998 vehicles.
=> Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault-Finding and Fitting Locations
- in vehicles without wiring "refrigerant temperature" between -E87 and dash panel insert the
switching off of the compressor when refrigerant temperature is too high occurs through refrigerant temperature
switch -F14
=> Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault-Finding and Fitting Locations
- In vehicles with pressure switch -F129 where there is a wiring "refrigerant temperature" between the -E87
and the dash panel insert switching off of the compressor occurs when refrigerant temperature is too high
through refrigerant temperature switch -F14 or via dash panel insert.
=> Current Flow Diagrams, Electrical Fault-Finding and Fitting Locations
Notes on display zone 2:
◆ When air conditioner magnetic clutch -N25 is engaged, the output is closed (voltage greater than 5 V).
◆ If, when the magnetic clutch is engaged, the voltage drops below 5 V (engine control unit or AT The gearbox
-J217 switches input to earth), the magnetic clutch is switched off by -E87 (=> display group 001, Page
