▪ Voltage for illuminating the various display elements of -E87.
Approx. battery voltage when side lights are off.
approx. 2.0 V to 12.5 V with side lights switched on (voltage at connector -A- contact -5- to -E87,
governed by the position of the control for instrument illumination -E20 terminal 58d).

Notes on display zones 3 and 4:
◆ A voltage between 0 and 2V is displayed in operating and display units with part number index "B"; the
electrical check must be performed on these vehicles, Page
◆ Regardless of the operating and display unit -E87 version, the values are displayed in volts or percent.
◆ Checking input voltage for terminals 58, 58d and 58s on operating and display unit -E87 =>Electrical check,

.
◆ The -E87 operating controls are illuminated only if voltage is applied to terminal 58 and 58s.
◆ The brightness of the -E87 display illumination can be changed via the -E20 illumination control, even if the
side lights are switched off.
◆ The voltage at terminal 58d is generated as a square-wave signal by the dash panel insert. The brightness
of -E87 displays is determined by the actuation time. The measuring instrument displays the average value.
◆ The actuation time at terminal 58d is governed by the illumination control setting and the brightness level
determined by the photosensor in the dash panel insert.
◆ The voltage at terminal 58s (with side lights switched on) is governed by the illumination control setting and
the brightness level determined by the photosensor in the dash panel insert.
