Analog Input Dynamics Tab

Touching the dynamics block on the Overview screen or this tab brings up the Dynamics screen. A unique
display shows simultaneous input, GR, and output metering for both gate and compressor with an input/
output graph. Touch and Spin can be used to set all gate and compressor parameters. Both processors have
separate key signal filters to make their action frequency selective. To aid in setting the Key Filter, the key
signal can be heard via the Key Listen solo system.

GATE / EXPANDER

Gate
The gate/expander reduces the gain for signals that are below the threshold setting. Gates are typically used
to reduce leakage from open microphones.
For more information about this processor, refer to the discussion in Section 9.3. The Gate/Expander has the
following features:
• Input, Reduction, and Output level meters — These three meters show the input level, output level, and
amount of gain reduction. These three values are also uniquely displayed on the graph (see the next sec-
tion "Gate Operation and Graphic Display").
• GATE/EXPANDER IN — This button enables the gate/expander.
• Gate Mode/Expander Mode switch — This switch sets Gate or Expander mode. The gate reduces the level
by the setting of the range control once the level falls below threshold. Instead of a fixed amount, the
expander does this reduction based on an input to output ratio.
• THRESH control — Sets the threshold of the gate in dB below 0 dBFS.
• RANGE control — Gate mode only. Determines how far the gain drops once the signal is below threshold.
Setting the range control to something in the 10-20 dB range allows some amount of signal leakage when
the gate is closed, which may make its action more subtle (less abrupt) and therefore less noticeable.
