Chapter 3: Overview

This chapter provides a brief overview of the various sections of the console, as well an introduction to many
of the features that you will find useful for mixing a show. Refer to the Quick-Start Guide for details on get-
ting a signal through the board quickly.
3.1

The Selected Channel

Selecting a channel puts it under control of the Selected Channel section of the console. This area has the
controls that normally appear in each channel strip of a traditional analog console. From the Selected Chan-
nel, you can:
• Make or change mic preamp settings.
• Adjust the channel EQ.
• Adjust the channel dynamics section.
• Set the level sent from this channel to any of the 24 aux/group sends.
• Set the level sent from this channel to any of the 4 internal Effects Sends.
• Adjust the level of the channel and alter its panning.
Select Channel 1 and use the Selected Channel section to adjust the EQ, compressor, and gate for the micro-
phone. The touchscreen is another way to access these parameters and controls. Additional information can
be found in Section 9.
3.2

Physical Input to Channel Routing

The UMX.96 lets you assign any physical input connector to any channel on the control surface. Ordinarily,
the assignment is input 1 to channel 1, input 2 to channel 2, etc. If your cable system forces an organization
on you that is strange, or if someone else is dictating how the microphones on stage are plugged into the
