Mute Button — The red MUTE button lights when the corresponding VCA master is muted and is unlit
when it is active.
Any time the VCA is muted, any channels assigned to the VCA group are also muted. This is indicated on the
control surface by flashing the mute buttons on these channels.
Select Button — Like the select buttons on the 48 channel faders, the VCA SELECT button focuses the VCA
for control on the Selected Channel controls and the touch screen.
Fader — The fader controls the VCA level. Adjusting its level controls the level of all channels assigned to
it through an additive process. For example, setting the VCA master to –10 dB reduces the output level of all
channels assigned to it by –10 dB.
Note: Just like an analog desk, moving a VCA fader does not cause the faders of assigned channels to move.
Holding CTRL and touching a fader returns the fader to the unity (U) position. This allows you to quickly
reset a group of faders to unity by holding CTRL and sliding your finger across a series of faders.
Solo Button — This solos the VCA. Any time a VCA is soloed, any channels assigned to the VCA group are
also soloed thus sending the channels to the solo bus. In addition, the solo buttons of channels in the VCA
group also flash.
The Mute, Select, Fader, and Solo also control the Aux Send when in Aux Mode, and the Faders follow the
selected channel when in Channel Follow Mode as described below.
10.1.1

Output 31-band EQ Control

The eight VCA faders can be temporarily used to control the output channel's 31-band graphic equalizers.
From the 31-band EQ screen, you can temporarily assign the EQ filters in four groups of eight to the VCA
faders. In this mode, both VCA Select buttons 1-8, 9-16 are unlit. Pressing either of the VCA Select buttons
returns the VCA faders to normal operation. 31 Band Graphic EQ control is described in detail in Section
12.2.23.
10.1.2

Aux Mode

In aux mode, the level settings of any of the 24 aux sends is adjustable on the upper and lower fader banks.
At the same time, the group of eight aux masters in which the selected aux send resides is adjustable on the
VCA faders. In this mode, both VCA Select buttons 1-8 and 9-16 are unlit. Press either of the VCA bank select
buttons to restore their function as VCA masters. See Section 8.2.3.4 for further details.
10.1.3

Channel Follow Mode

Pressing both VCA Select buttons at the same time lights them both and puts the VCA faders into "channel fol-
low mode. " When enabled, the eight VCA faders change operation to follow the selected channel by showing
it and its surrounding eight fader bucket. So if analog channel 5 was selected on the bank Analog 1-24, analog
channel faders 1-8 would be shown in the VCA fader's bucket. If you then select Stereo channel 6, Stereo 1-8
now appear on the VCA faders. Pressing either of the VCA bank buttons goes back to standard VCA fader op-
eration. Channel Follow Mode allows you to keep the selected channel and its neighbors close at hand while
working on it in the Selected Channel or touchscreen.
You can create user banks which contain custom channel layouts (see Section 12.9.5, Utility>UserBanks).
Therefore a particular channel could appear multiple times: once (or more) on the user banks, as well as in
its real position. If one of these channels is selected when enabling channel follow mode, the following rules
determine which bucket of 8 faders is displayed:
• If the selected channel is shown on both upper and lower banks, display the first instance of the channel
of the bottom bank.
• If the selected channel appears multiple times (e.g., user bank and real location) but it currently is not
shown on either bank, display the real channel location, not the user bank.
