About This Manual

This manual is designed to be accessible, with subsections as complete as practical to minimize having to
leaf back and forth looking for the whole story. You shouldn't have to read the entire manual to figure out
how to use this console. You're welcome to do that, if that's your style, but it isn't necessary. On the other
hand, a certain amount of familiarity with analog mixing consoles, their features, and commonly used signal
processing (compressors, limiters, gates, EQs) is assumed.
This manual is designed to give you the following resources:
• A general overview of the console's facilities and features.
• Section-by-section description of each knob, button, fader, input, and output.
• Detailed description of each screen on the touchscreen interface.
• Two different index methods. One is visual, using drawings of the console, with callouts to the manual
sections that describe those items. The other is more traditional, but with an emphasis on concepts in-
stead of word occurrence.
We recommend that you:
1.
Scan the table of contents.
2.
Locate the visual index.
3.
Read sections 1 and 2 in their entirety.
4.
Read the Quick-Start Guide.
5.
Start using the console.
6.
Refer to the rest of the manual as needed.

Terminology and Conventions

The following terms and conventions are used throughout this manual.
• Console controls are represented in bold type using their exact spelling and capitalization (e.g., press the
SELECT button).
• Items located on the touchscreen are bold and italicized (e.g., touch the EDIT button).
• Touchscreen and console areas are represented by capital letters in plain type (e.g., press the PAN button
in the PREAMP portion of the CHANNEL ASSIGN area). Furthermore, items located on the touchscreen are
italicized.
• Scribble strip displays are represented by medium bold letters (e.g., The bottom line of the scribble strip
displays the word Delay).
• Connections made to/from the console are represented by capital letters in bold type using their exact
spelling (e.g., the insert SEND jack is half-normalled...).
• Boldface is only used when the item described is the object of the discussion. For example: Press the 48V
button to apply phantom power to the input. Most microphones are tolerant of 48V phantom power.
• "Press" and "adjust" pertain to buttons or controls on the surface of the console. You press a button and
you adjust a control.
• "Enable" applies to switches/buttons that toggle between two values. "Enable the 48V phantom power"
means "if the button isn't lit, press the button so it is lit. "
• "Disable" pertains to switches/buttons that toggle between two values. "Disable the 48V phantom power"
means, "if the button is lit, then press the button so that it is not lit. "
• The greater-than or right arrow symbol (>) serves as the separator character in a button or menu path. For
example, Setup>Naming takes you to the channel Naming tab in the Setup screen. On the touchscreen,
you touch the Setup button and then the Naming tab.
