4.2.1

Mic/Line Inputs

All of these connections are located on the right half of the rear panel.
48 mic/line inputs — The mic/line inputs have balanced locking XLR connectors, wired
according to the AES standard:
Pin 1 = Shield (ground)
Pin 2 = Positive (+ or hot)
Pin 3 = Negative (– or cold)
These inputs can be used for either mic- or line-level signals; there is no separate line input
connector. For line level signals (–20 dBu to +24 dBu) use the input pad. These inputs also
have 48V phantom power available. Enable or disable either control from the channel
overview screen, the Selected Channel section, or the Channel Assign controls.
Note: It is not a good idea to enable the phantom power unless it is actually needed. Line-
level sources may be particularly unhappy when they are subjected to 48V phantom power-
ing. Many musical instrument amps and keyboards with "direct outputs" fit this description.
Insert Send / Insert Return — Every mic/line input has its own pair of TRS line level, bal-
anced, insert send/return jacks. The jacks are half-normalled so the insert send jack can
also be used as a pre-analog-to-digital-conversion direct output.
All TRS jacks are wired as follows:
Tip = Positive (+ or hot)
Ring = Negative (– or cold)
Shield = Ground
Direct Output — Every mic/line input has its own TRS line level, balanced, direct output.
These outputs may be assigned Pre DSP or Post DSP on the channel overview screen.

Stereo Inputs

These connections are all located on the right half of the rear panel. Refer to the drawing on the previous
page.
Stereo Line Inputs — Eight stereo pairs of line-level inputs are available for effects returns, tape/CD play-
back or other line-level sources. Each stereo input has two balanced XLR connectors. See Section 12.2.10 for
more info.
