Note that effects presets include both the effect and the three-band EQ following the effect. Changing the
preset will change the three-band EQ. Storing an effect preset will store the three-band EQ setting.

12.2.17.1 Reverb

The stereo reverb simulates the effect of room variations upon your sounds. For example, you can simulate
the effect of playing in a small garage with a concrete floor, or at a large concert hall.
The controls include pre-delay, room selection from small to very large, decay, diffusion, damping, and roll
off. A three-band EQ is also included.
Pre Delay: If you are listening to a live performance, then the direct sounds will reach you first, followed by
reverberation caused by room reflections. The pre-delay is the amount of time between when the direct
sounds reach you, and when the reflections reach you.
The speed of sound is approximately 340 meters per second (1100 feet per second). This means that in one
millisecond, it travels 0.34 meters (110 feet). As a rough idea, think of 1 ms as the time it takes for sound to
travel one foot.
Type: Use this control to select different room types. The choices are:
Ambient 1-4
Small 1-4
Medium 1-4
Large 1-4
Very Large 1-4
Each room has its own algorithm, used as a base from which you can modify the controls. First choose your
room type from this list, and then adjust the other controls to simulate the effect of adding curtains, car-
pets, tiling, wall coverings, etc. As the room types increase in size, so the value of the Decay control will also
increase, as longer signal paths and reflection paths are involved.
Decay: This represents the decay time of the reverb, and its value will vary depending on the size of the
room you choose with the Room Type selector.
Diffusion: This control allows you to adjust the overall decay density. This describes how "thick" the reverb is,
that is, the amount of sound reflections that make up the reverb. Lower values sound "thinner, " while higher
values give a smoother-sounding decay.
Damping: This increases or decreases the decay time of the higher frequencies relative to the overall decay
time. The range is from 0 to 100, in steps of 1, where 100 is the most damping, and 0 represents no damping.
Higher damping means less high frequencies in the reverb.
There is more damping in a room that has more curtains and thicker carpeting. These surfaces will affect the
high-frequency reflections more than the lower frequencies.
