The Power Supply

The UMX.PS is a 2U rack-mountable external power supply that provides the required power to operate the
UMX.96. Connect the supplied cable between the Power Out connector on the back of the UMX.PS to the
Power Supply connector on the back of the UMX.96.
The UMX.PS is actually two power supplies in one chassis; both supplies share the load under normal condi-
tions. Should one supply fail for any reason, the other supply takes over the full load so the show can go on.
Connect both of the detachable linecords (provided) to the two IEC sockets on the back of the UMX.PS and
plug the other end of the linecords into an AC outlet capable of providing 1100 watts. These are universal
power supplies that can accept any AC voltage ranging from 100 VAC to 260 VAC (47-63 Hz). No need for
voltage select switches. They will work virtually anywhere in the world. This also means that they are less sus-
ceptible to voltage sags or spikes, providing greater electromagnetic isolation and better protection against
AC line noise.
Turn on the Power Output switch on the front panel of the UMX.PS and the UMX.96 will power up. When
both supplies are operating properly, the green On, Present, and 48V LEDs for each supply light up.
Four Front Panel Status LEDs for each supply operate as follows:
• Present (orange): The supply is physically inserted. This is an indication that there is a redundant supply in
the slot.
• ON (green): The power switch is in the ON position.
• 48V (green): The 48V supply is working properly, and contributing to the load share of the 48V bus.
• PREDICTIVE FAILURE (red): The supply is running, but something is out of spec, overheating, or AC is
browning out, etc., and the supply should be removed and checked.
If only one supply is working, the bank of four LEDs for the defective supply blinks in unison to indicate that
it needs service.
