8.4 Prepare the Sample
Before starting the run, the sample should be prepared for
introduction to the column. The Companion XL supports three
methods that introduce the sample: liquid sample injection,
solid sample cartridges, and loading sample directly onto the
column.
8.4.1 Liquid Sample Injection
Before starting a separation using a liquid injection, the
Liquid Injection accessory kit (60-5244-050) must be installed
on the system.
1. Remove the Solid Sample Load Cartridge cap and its
tubing from the bulkhead fitting on the front of the
Companion XL.
2. Screw the Swagelok plug (209-0165-21) from the accessory
kit onto the bulkhead fitting and finger tighten (see Figure
8-4). Then, using a
turn.

3. Insert the Liquid Inject accessory into the lower sample
injection port. Turn the valve on the Liquid Inject
accessory so that it is perpendicular to the tubing (closed).
After installing the accessory, the Companion XL is ready for
liquid injections. To perform a run using a liquid injection:
1. Select "Liquid" as the Sample type from PeakTrak's Main
window (Figure 8-5).
