8.4.2 Solid Sample Cartridges
Solid sample cartridges are practical when there is a need to
introduce a low-solubility sample onto the column. The
cartridge holds the prepared sample. After equilibration, the
Companion XL changes the fluid path so that the mobile
phase passes through the cartridge and onto the column.
This solid sample should be prepared and loaded according to
the on-line help topic "Preparing Solid Samples."
After loading the prepared media in the cartridge, place a frit
on top of the media. Then:
1. Insert the plunger on the cartridge cap until it rests
against the frit. If more length is needed, the cap will slide
along the plunger shaft if you press the spring-loaded tab.
2. Align the top of the cartridge with the opening on the cap
(Figure 8-8).
3. Press the tab and slide the cap over the top of the cartridge
(Figure 8-9).
4. Turn the cap
5. Load the solid sample cartridge on the sample injection
port (Figure 8-10).
