area network. The IP address is assigned by your
network administrator.
• Enter Netmask – Use this to change the
Companion XL's Netmask setting. The Netmask is
assigned by your network administrator.
• Enter Gateway Address – Use this to set a gateway
for the Companion XL. The gateway is assigned by
your network administrator.
Alternatively, you can select the "Use DHCP Only" check
box. Before using DHCP, confirm that the network can
automatically handle Linux address requests. Additionally,
the network administrator must be able to manually asso-
ciate the MAC address in the DNS server table.
If using DHCP, it is important to:
• configure the DHCP lease as "infinite."
• associate the Companion XL's MAC Address with a
unique name on the network.
Note
A label on the Companion XL's back panel lists the instrument's
MAC Address.
For example, when using DHCP the Companion XL could
be assigned the name "My_Companion." User's would then
access the instrument through the address
"http://My_Companion."
3. After entering the settings that meet the requirements of
your network, click the Update button to apply the
settings.
4. The screen advances and displays the old and new
addresses. Record this information.
