Section 5 Direct Connection with
This section provides instructions for establishing
communications with the Companion XL from a computer
with Windows 2000 operating system.

5.1 Windows 2000 Computer Requirements

Minimum System Requirements:
• 266 MHz Pentium processor
• 64 MB RAM
• Ethernet Port
• TCP/IP services installed
• VGA or better graphics, minimum screen area of
800 × 600 pixels
• Microsoft Windows 2000, Service Pack 3
• Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 or later
Note
The procedures described in this section will require a user
account on the PC with Administrator privileges. If your user
account does not have administrator privileges, contact your IT
department before proceeding.

5.2 Establishing a Direct Connection

Sections 5.2.1 through 5.2.3 configure the computer so that it
can communicate with the Companion XL. After completing
the steps, the computer and Companion XL may be operated
as a stand-alone system, or the direct connection may be used
to configure the Companion XL so that it can be added to a
network (see Section 7).
