Range

The Range function (see
black level of an image.
Gamma correction, an industry standard effect, helps normalize the brightness across the
entire image. The Range function is useful in imaging an object where highly reflective
(bright) areas are close to less reflective (dark) areas and the illumination cannot be
optimized for both. In these instances with Range applied, the darker areas brighten with
minimal change to the already existing bright areas, resulting in normalization of the
overall brightness.
Black level is the level of brightness at the darkest (black) part of the image. The Range
function adjusts the black level to ensure that the black areas display as truly black when
using gamma correction.

Figure 73 Range Levels

Range has five (5) different levels of image correction available for user selection: 0%
(off), 25%, 50% (default), 75%, and 100%. Each of these settings corresponds to a unique
combination of adjustment settings that include gamma correction and black level. The
default setting for the Range function is on at 50% level; this setting changes based on
user activity.
After selecting a Range level and starting Record Video, the selected Range setting (on
or off and associated level) persists throughout the recording session. It cannot be
changed during the video recording.
The Range settings remain on the last active selection until modified by the user; it does
not reset to the default setting.
