I/O cables for digital signals
When wiring field devices, select shielded cable that is suit-
able for the conditions at the location of use. The possible
cable length depends on various factors. Observe the follow-
ing in particular:
the cable resistance
the transition resistance at junctions
the electrical characteristic values of the modules and the
connected sensors.
The maximum permissible length of the sensor cable is
200 m (at min. 0.1424 mm², resistance < 50 Ω for total cable
length). The use of cables twisted in pairs increases the EMC
resistance of sensor cables.
Shield support and shield earthing
These connection blocks do not feature a connection for the
cable screening. A shield support or earthing (potential
equalisation) is to be configured separately.
The metal thread of these terminal blocks can be used as a
shield support by utilising corresponding plug connectors.
The shield support is capacitively separated from the poten-
tial equalisation. If the screening is to be earthed on the
module side, a separate provision is to be provided for this
purpose.
Provided it is permitted by the national regulations for the
potential equalisation concept at the installation location,
cable screenings should only be earthed at one point.
