Recommended settings for above-knee prostheses
Fast Power Timing: Increase the basic setting to approx. 55. Check whether the extension moment in the
mid-stance phase is reached and the activation timing while walking up ramps is suitable.
Toe Strike: Set the value to 0. This avoids the powered push-off while walking backwards, turning, and
switching the MyModes of the prosthetic knee joint using the movement pattern.
Virtual Dorsi/Plantarflexion: Reduce the value in increments of 5 steps if the prosthetic knee joint is not
activated in the mid-stance phase. Check the prosthetic alignment.
Knee flexion is not triggered while walking down a ramp, even though the alignment is correct:
Increase the resistance at heelstrike, or insert a heel wedge to reduce heel compression. Then verify the cor
rect rollover while walking on the level.
Alarm for battery charge level (STEP 3)
INFORMATION
The low charge level alarm is triggered when only a few steps remain before the battery is drained, and when the
prosthetic foot is switched on with a low charge level. The alarm is only triggered at a standstill, not while walking.
► The prosthetic foot emits the alarm 1 time and vibrates for 3 seconds: About 400 steps remain.
► The prosthetic foot emits the alarm 2 times and vibrates 2 times for 3 seconds: About 150 steps
remain.
An alarm is emitted when the battery charge level is low. The alarm can be configured with the Personal Bionics
Tuning Application.
1) Select the desired alarm type in STEP 3.
2) Tap the button on the bottom edge of the screen to test the alarm.
INFORMATION: The configured alarm type is saved automatically.
Saving settings (STEP 4)
The prosthetic foot settings can be saved on the tablet. This is required for example in order to transfer the settings
to another prosthetic foot.
1) In STEP 4, tap the Save Settings to Tablet button to save the settings.
2) Optional: Tap the Read Prosthesis Configuration button to see detailed configuration information.
Empower 1A1-1
Adjustment description and procedure
Influences the increase in the power response based on the
settings for slow walking and fast walking. Can be increased
to obtain the maximum power response during fast walking.
If the values for fast walking or virtual plantar flexion
for stair climbing were increased: Increase the value for
the cadence range to balance the powered push-off when
walking on the level.
Supports climbing stairs and walking up very steep ramps. The
powered push-off for stair climbing is only triggered when the
patient puts a considerable load on the toe region without first
having put a load on the heel.
If the patient is unable to activate the powered push-
off during stair climbing: Increase the value.
If the patient unintentionally activates the powered
push-off while standing or turning on the level:
Decrease the value.
Virtual dorsi/plantar flexion has the same effect as flexing the
prosthetic foot. Positive values mean virtual plantar flexion,
negative values mean virtual dorsiflexion. Changing the value
influences both the intensity of the powered push-off and the
timing of its activation.
If the powered push-off is insufficient during stair
climbing or works inconsistently at all walking
speeds: Increase or decrease the value for troubleshoot
ing.
