1.1 Construction and Function
The 1A1-1 Empower prosthetic foot is equipped with an electronically controlled active ankle joint. The active ankle
joint simulates the muscle-tendon apparatus of an existing limb through powered push-off. The parameters of the
control device can be adjusted with the help of a software application.
The carbon spring is compressed at the start of the stance phase, simulating the activation of the dorsal flexors. At
the end of the stance phase, the function of the calf musculature and Achilles tendon is simulated by the powered
push-off. Thus the prosthetic foot assists the user's forward motion and adapts to changing ground conditions by
adjusting the plantar flexion. The relief function makes a natural foot position possible while sitting.
