5.2.2 Configuring settings
The prosthetic foot is adjusted while the patient is in motion. After setting up the prosthesis (STEP 1), the paramet
ers for the basic settings (STEP 2) are adjusted and the patient provides feedback about the behaviour of the pros
thetic foot. Walking on the level is first optimised in this manner, followed by walking up and down stairs and
ramps.
INFORMATION
For bilateral amputees, configure the settings on the non-dominant side first.
Walking on level surfaces
1) When the prosthetic foot is used for the first time: Enter the patient's weight in STEP 1.
2) Have the patient walk on the level. In doing so, keep the tablet within the range of the Bluetooth connection so
the settings can be changed.
3) In STEP 2, adjust the parameters for the basic settings in the specified order (see the following table). To do
so, select each parameter and change the settings with the + and – buttons.
INFORMATION: Tap the ? button (Help) for additional information about the parameters.
Empower 1A1-1
The Personal Bionics Tuning Application consists of
two areas.
Diagram
The diagram shows the power response of the prosthet
ic foot and the walking speed. Each step with the pros
thetic foot is shown as a point. All points shown within
the two dashed lines are in the normal range of an ana
tomical ankle. A few points outside the lines are OK if
the patient is satisfied with the adjustment.
The diagram serves as a reference for walking on the
level only. Do not use the diagram for walking on stairs
or ramps.
Settings
The settings are broken down into steps. These steps
follow the sequence of fitting the prosthetic foot on the
patient. Special needs of the patient can be met in addi
tion through the advanced settings.
STEP 1: Setting up the prosthesis
STEP 2: Basic settings
STEP 3: Alarm settings
STEP 4: Saving the settings to the tablet
