Disk Drive Assembly (HDA) Removal and Replacement
There are 16 (max) HDAs plugged into the front side of the machine. The minimum configuration contains
3 installed HDAs. HDA slots are located in rows 1-4 and columns 0-3, in the front side of the
S/390
Integrated Server.
DISK DRIVE MODULES ARE FRAGILE. HANDLE THEM WITH CARE AND KEEP THEM WELL AWAY
FROM STRONG MAGNETIC FIELDS. ANY SLOTS WITH NO DISK DRIVE MODULE INSTALLED MUST
BE COVERED WITH AN AIR FLOW IMPEDANCE PLATE.
Removing Array Disk Assembly (HDA)

Start the SSA Configurator and Service Aids Utility by:
• If the OS/2 system is running, start the SSA Configurator and Service Aids Utility by selecting the
icon that was generated when the software was installed, or by opening an OS/2 session and
typing the following:

CD !ISSA
ISSACFG
• If the OS/2 system is not running, run the stand-alone OS/2 SSA Configuration Utility (ISSACFG)
contained on the two OS/2 Utility diskettes.

The Main menu will display.
• Select SSA ADAPTER LIST
• Select ADAPTER

From the Main menu, select System Resources.

Select the array from which you want to remove a disk drive.

Select View Members.

Select the disk drive that you want to remove, and use the Identify function to find the disk drive. To

start the Identify function, press F9 (FlashOn); the Check light flashes on the selected disk drive. To

end the Identify function, press F10 (FlashOff).

Press F7 (Exchange Members).

Select Blank Reserved. The selected disk drive has now been removed from the array, and
replaced by a blank virtual disk).

Locate the HDA to be replaced.

Using torque tool PN 6422789, loosen two captive fasteners on the front of the HDA. Note that the
fasteners are on the upper left and lower right corners of the HDA.

Pull the HDA from the enclosure using the handle on the face of the HDA. Handle the drive carefully.
