Installing Fixpacks
Application of service cannot be concurrent with normal operations. The customer must quiesce and
shutdown his S/390 operating system, and the you must shutdown the P/390 I/O subsystem by clicking on
"END P/390".
Follow the instructions in the readme file to run the 5390FIX command that handles both the installation
and removal (regression) of fixes. Instructions on the screen or in the readme file will inform you about
any other actions which may be required to make the fix take effect, e.g. rebooting OS/2.
When a fix pack or patch is applied, an entry is made into INSTALl.LOG. An entry is also made if a fix is
regressed. INSTALl.LOG can be viewed with the OS/2 command TEDIT C:\P390\INSTALL.LOG.
Setting up an Internet Connection via Modem
The S/390 Integrated Server needs a connection to the Internet in order to upload traces and logs, and to
download 10SP fixes and patches. Usually, this is a LAN connection (Token-Ring or Ethernet) via TCP/IP.
If LAN attachment to the Internet is not possible, then an alternative is modem attachment to the IBM
Intranet.
This procedure describes how to configure the IBM Global Network Dialer (supplied with the 10SP
software) to establish an Internet connection using the IBM 7858-336 modem. This is the modem that has
been tested with the S/390 Integrated Server. Other modems may work just as well, but only external
modems are supported.
These are the steps that must be followed:
1. Double click with the left mouse button on the IBM Global Network Dialer icon on the OS/2 desktop.
~hoen"~:~t~n~~~otebook" should appear, if not then the dialer has already been configured. Goto step
( "
2. From the Identity page, update the default identity profile.
