Communication Adapters Removal and Replacement
Use the steps below as a general procedure for removing and replacing the communication adapters.
Removing the Communication Adapters
1
Turn OFF the S/390 Integrated Server power and disconnect the power cord. Verify that power is
off. (See "Power Off Procedures" on page 142)
2
WAC and EtherJet only If there are any devices connected to these adapters set the power
switches to Off and disconnect the cables.
3
Open both front and rear door of frame.
4
Remove the left (viewed from the front of the machine) side cover by pulling the top of the side cover
away from the machine until the posts on the cover are fully disengaged from the holes in the side.
The adapter cards are accessed through the side opening.
5
Locate the adapter card to be removed and unplug any cables plugged to this card at the face of the
I/O cage.
6
Remove the card retention plate which is fastened to the right rear wall of the I/O Cage.
7
Unscrew the fastener at the left card edge and unplug the card. Lift the adapter card from the
system unit.
Replacing the Communication Adapters
1
Multiport Model 2 Adapter only For this adapter it is necessary to set the option switch SW1 (see
"Setting the Option Switch SW1" on page 36) on the new card.
2
WAC adapter only Make sure that the switches on the card are set properly. Set the switches to
match the failing card you are replacing. The switch assembly contains seven switches (See "WAC
Switch Settings" on page 42) that are used to set I/O address ranges and interrupt levels. Set the
option switches to one of three settings, depending if this is a first, second, or third WAC card.
3
WAC adapter and Multiport Model 2 Adapter only Reserve interrupts (IROs) or memory
addresses or both for ISA adapters (See "BIOS Operation" on page 55).
4
WAC adapter only If it is necessary to install the EIB card on the WAC adapter (See "Installing the
EIB" on page 40).
5
EtherJet adapter only See "Adapter Address" on page 31 for addressing information.
6
Plug the new card and tighten the fastener at left card edge.
7
Reinstall the card retention plate.
8
WAC adapter only Install the EIB-specific cable to the correct link connector on the back of the
WAC adapter card.
9
Token Ring adapter only Only one data cable can be connected to the PCI Token-Ring Adapter at
a time.
10
After installing the adapter and before switching your 8/390 Integrated Server on connect the adapter
cable to the connector on the adapter and to the network or to the connected devices.
11
Plug all power cords into the electrical outlets.
