Removal and Replacement Procedures
Adapter 1/0 Cage Assembly Removal and Replacement
The 1/0 Cage is located at the right rear of the frame. Use the steps below as a general procedure for
removing and replacing your PCIIISA/BIDI 1/0 Cage assembly. See "Rear View Locations" on page 269
for the location of the Adapter I/O cage.
Removing the Adapter I/O Cage

Turn OFF the
S/390
Integrated Server power and disconnect the power cord. Verify that power is
off. (See "Power Off Procedures" on page 142)

Open both front and rear door of frame.

Remove the left (viewed from the front of the machine) side cover by pulling the top of the side cover
away from the machine until the posts on the cover are fully disengaged from the holes in the side.

Unplug all cable from the face of the I/O cage. Label if necessary to restore to original positions.

Unplug all the PCI cards. See the procedure for removing PCI cards in order to do this. Label the
cards if necessary to restore to original positions.

Card only The three cables connected between the SBC card (Slot 18) and the BIOI board
must be retained to use with the replacement cage.

Loosen completely the upper right fastener and then the lower right fastener.

Loosen the left fasteners, alternating several turns between the upper and lower fasteners until both
are completely loosened.

Slide the cage out of the frame.
Replacing the Adapter 110 Cage
1
Replace the cage assembly by sliding the cage into the frame and plug it into the backplane.

Tighten upper and lower left hand fasteners using PN 6422789 torque tool alternating between
fasteners.

Tighten the right hand fasteners.
4
Reinstall all PCI cards.

Card only Reconnect the three cables between the
sse
card (Slot 18) and the BIOI board.
5
Reconnect all cables previously removed from the system unit.
6
Plug all power cords into the electrical outlets.
7
Turn ON the S/390 Integrated Server power.

Run lJiagnostics to Verify Installation.
