Power Failures

This is the starting point for analyzing a system power failure. The symptoms are:
• A failure detected in one of the system power functions.
• No system power
• System not operating
• No display function
This problem can be caused by:
• Missing customer power.
• Defective customer Room EPO circuit.
• Insufficient or missing air flow.
• Switches are in the wrong position.
• Any defective Off' Line Converter (OCA).
• Any defective Air Moving Device (AMD).
• Any missing, unplugged or defective power cable.
• Any defective Integrated Battery Feature (IBF) unit.
• A load fault on any OCA output level.
• Any defective printed circuit board.
• Defective EPO card assembly
• Defective IOSP or RS422 card.
• Defective Display or display cable.
Note the following instructions which apply to this procedure:
1. When instructed to exchange FRUs as A OR B OR C, exchange the FRUs one
at a time in the order given.
2. When instructed to exchange FRUs
A AND BAND
C, exchange all the FRUs
at one time.
3. To exchange a FRU, see the Removal/Replacement Procedure for that FRU
contained Chapter 8, "Removal and Replacement Procedures" on page 141.
4. To verify a repair, press the button labelled PWR RESET on the OCA and wait
2 minutes. The repair is verified if after 2 minutes all OCA fault (FL T) indicators
are off and PWR IN and PWR OUT are on.
5. If the fault is not cleared and you were directed to exchange the FRUs one at a
time, restore the last FRU exchanged before going to the next FRU in the list.
6. If the FRU list is exhausted and the fault is not cleared, call for assistance.
DANGER
Service of any subassemblies under power outside of their machine
frame mounts is strictly prohibited.
Is the system display inactive?
YES
NO
Inactive indicates blank screen or missing system
information.
