Removal and Replacement Procedures
Differential SCSI Adapter Removal and Replacement
The SCSI adapter must be installed in PCI slot 1. Use the steps below as a general procedure for
removing and replacing the SCSI adapter card.
Removing the SCSI Adapter
1
Turn OFF the S/390 Integrated Server power and disconnect the power cord. Verify that power is
off. (See "Power Off Procedures" on page 142)

Open both front and rear door of frame.

Remove the left (viewed from the front of the machine) side cover by pulling the top of the side cover
away from the machine until the posts on the cover are fully disengaged from the holes in the side.
The adapter cards are accessed through the side opening.

Locate the adapter card in PCI slot 1 and unplug any cables plugged to this card at the face of the

I/O cage.

Remove the card retention plate which is fastened to the right rear wall of the I/O Cage.

Unscrew the fastener at the left card edge and unplug the card.
Replacing the SCSI Adapter
1
Hold the new SCSI adapter by the top and firmly press it into the PCI slot, while guiding the handle
into the card support bracket.

Tighten the fastener at left card edge.

Reinstall the card retention plate.
4
Reconnect all cables previously removed from the system unit.
5
Plug all power cords into the electrical outlets.
6
Align side cover with slots in bottom of frame and push top of cover into the frame until the posts are
fully engaged.
7
Turn ON the S/390 Integrated Server power.

Run Diagnostics to Verify Installation.
