Removal and Replacement Procedures
Midplane Removal and Replacement
The Mid Plane Board is attached to the mid plane board stiffener inside the frame. See "Top View
Locations" on page 265 for the location of the Mid Plane Board.
Removing the Mid Plane Board

Turn OFF the S/390 Integrated Server power and disconnect the power cord. Verify that power is
off. (See "Power Off Procedures" on page 142)

Unfasten rear side FRUs (OCAs, I/O cage, PU book if installed), unplug and draw away from the
frame about "1" inch for each FRU. Do not remove these FRUs.

ALL OF THE REMAINING REMOVAL STEPS ARE PERFORMED AT THE FRONT OF THE
FRAME.

Remove front door from the frame.

Remove EPO bracket from the right front by loosening two 5.5 mm socket hex nuts and sliding
bracket off. The screws must only be slightly loosened and should not be removed.

Unplug and remove all FRUs from the front side of the machine (all HDAs, all media, Floppy disk,
Epo card, SSA Extender cards). Label if necessary to insure reinstall to correct locations.

Remove any slot covers from unused HDA and media slots. Set aside.

Remove upper plenum bracket by loosening five 5.5 mm socket hexhead screws. Set aside.

Remove lower plenum bracket by loosening seven 5.5 mm socket hexhead screws. Set aside.

The HDAIMedia cage must be removed. Remove the twelve Bmm socket hexhead screws located on
bridge lances. Slide the cage out of the frame. The board is now fully exposed.

Remove four Bmm socket hex screws which fasten the board to the mid plane stiffener. Remove the
board from the frame.
Replacing the Mid Plane Board

Insert the board into the frame and mount to the locator pins on the mid plane stiffener. Be sure the
HDA connectors are facing out. Secure with the four Bmm socket hex heads.

Slide cage into the frame locating the cage on the same locator pins as above. Secure with twelve
5.5 mm socket hex head screws.

Reinstall the upper and lower plenum plates.

Reinstall all front side FRUs. Be the EPO switch is in the Off position. Reinstall all slot covers. At this
time, the rear side slots will all contain FRUs or will have a slot cover.

Slide the EPO bracket onto the screws and tighten.

Reinstall the rear side FRUs. Be sure that the UEPO BYPASS switch on the front of each OCA is in
the NORM position.

Reinstall the front door.

Turn ON the S/390 Integrated Server power.
