Avoid severe shaking of the water sample after adding the reagent, as this

The reagent used will cause fine clouding.

Other substances in the water that may react with silver nitrate in
an acidic medium will lead to a falsification of the measurement result.
Such species are bromide and iodine.

Very alkaline water should be neutralized before the measurement by adding
nitric acid.
