Understanding the NetBackup 5330 hardware installation sequence
Note: Before you add expansion shelves to systems that currently use versions
2.6.1.2 and earlier, you must upgrade to NetBackup Appliance Release 2.7.1, or
later. Refer to the NetBackup Appliance Upgrade Guide for Release 2.7.x - RedHat
Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Operating System, which is located at the following website.
NetBackup Appliance documentation
Before you add the partner node to complete the NetBackup 5330 HA configuration,
upgrade your system to NetBackup Appliance software version 3.1, or later. Refer
to the NetBackup 52xx and 5330 Appliance Upgrade Guide, which is located at the
following website.
NetBackup Appliance documentation
For easier installation and cabling between units, the installation of the compute
node and the storage shelves must be performed in a specific sequence.
The recommended installation sequence is as follows:
Install the storage shelves
■
Expansion Storage Shelves - install in the lowest available 4RU rack spaces.
■
Primary Storage Shelf - install in the next available 4RU rack space on top
■
of the Expansion Storage Shelves.
The storage shelves are the heaviest units. They are physically similar and
both use the same rail type for mounting. For easier installation, do not install
the disk drives until after the units are installed into the rack.
The estimated time to install one storage shelf is about 2.5 hours.
■
Install the node
■
Install a single compute node in the next available 2RU rack space on top
■
of the Primary Storage Shelf.
The estimated time to install one compute node is about 1.25 hours.
■
For a high availability (HA) configuration, install a partner node in the next
■
available 2RU rack space on top of the Primary Storage Shelf.
The following sections describe the installation steps and include links to the specific
procedures.
