CHART 7102. ENGINE TROUBLESHOOTING
Cause
Stoppage in oil pump intake
passage.
High oil temperature.
Insufficient air cooling.
Insufficient oil supply.
Low grade of oil.
Clogged oil lines or strainers.
Excessive blow-by.
Failing or failed bearing.
Defective temperature gauge.
Low grade of oil.
Failing or failed bearings.
Worn piston rings.
Incorrect installation of
piston rings.
Failure of rings to seat (new
nitrided cylinders).

Remedy
Check line for obstruction.
Clean suction strainer.
See "High Oil Temperature"
in "Trouble" column.
Check air inlet and outlet
for deformation or obstruc
tion.
Fill oil sump to proper level
with specified oil.
Replace with oil conforming
to specifications.
Remove and clean oil
strainers.
Usually caused by worn or
stuck rings.
Examine sump for metal par
ticles. If found, overhaul of
engine is indicated.
Replace gauge.
Fill tank with oil conforming
to specifications.
Check sump for metal par-
ticles.
Install new rings.
Install new rings.
Use mineral base oil. Climb
to cruise altitude at full
power and operate at 75%
cruise power setting with
high oil temperature until
oil consumption stabilizes.
