14.8 Calculation of body weight on the basis of
body height
In the start menu, you can set the height of the patient under the menu item New patient
(see "5.2 Switching the unit on/Self-test" on page 41). The device calculates the appropri-
ate ventilation parameters based on the set height and the corresponding ideal body
weight (IBW).
The IBW value is calculated as follows:

Child
IBW = 2.05 x
(2)
Adult
IBW male = 50 + 2.3 x [height/2.54 - 60]
IBW female = 45 + 2.3 x [height/2.54 - 60]
With the aid of the IBW, the tidal volume can be calculated as follows:
(KG = body weight)
Example
Patient, male, height 185 cm
Setting for Vt/kg KG = 6 ml/kg
IBW = 50 + 2.3 x [185 cm/2.54 - 60] = 79.51 kg
Vt= 80 kg x 6 ml/kg = 450 ml
