Installing the 8x2.5-inch hot-swap HDD assembly kit

Use this information to add eight 2.5-inch hard-disk-drive bays in the server.
You can install an Lenovo System x3650 M4 HD Plus Eight 2.5-inch Hot-Swap HDD Assembly Kit to
add eight additional 2.5-inch hot-swap hard-disk-drive bays in the server. See http://www.lenovo.com/
serverproven/ for a list of supported optional devices. To order a 8x2.5-inch hot-swap HDD assembly kit,
contact your Lenovo sales representative or Lenovo reseller.
The 8x2.5-inch hot-swap HDD assembly kit contains the following components:
• One hot-swap HDD backplane
• Two mini-SAS cables
• One power cable
• One configuration cable
• Eight 2.5-inch HDD fillers
Note: The option including structural parts and Tier 1 parts.
To install the 8x2.5-inch hot-swap HDD assembly kit, complete the following steps:
Step 1. Read the safety information that begins on "Safety" on page v and "Installation guidelines"
on page 34.
Step 2. Remove the cover (see "Removing the cover" on page 37).
Step 3. Touch the static-protective package that contains the backplane to any unpainted surface on the
outside of the server; then, grasp the backplane and remove it from the package.
Step 4. Install the backplane in the farthest slot from the power supplies.
