About Field Types

Decide what information to print on the format from the following categories.
Field Type
Description
Text
Contains letters, numbers, or symbols.
Non-
Holds data for use later, such as for
Printable
merging into another field. The printer
Text
does not print non-printable text fields.
Bar Code
Used for printing bar codes that can be
scanned.
Constant
Prints fixed characters that do not
Text
change.
Line or Box
Highlights or separates items.
Graphic
Contains a bitmap image or a
compliance label overlay.
Verifier
Specifies a verifier configuration to use
for each format.
RFID
Contains the RFID data to program into
the RFID inlay.
All of the above field types except graphics are discussed in Chapter 3. See Chapter 5,
"Creating
Graphics" for information on including graphics in the format.

The Format Worksheet is divided into sections that list the field types. Each section has boxes to
fill in with parameters that define a format. A format worksheet is included in Appendix D,
"Format Design
Tools."

Filling in the Format Worksheet

Decide what type of field to use on the label.
1. Make a copy of the Format Worksheet.
2. Define the Format Header. See
information.
3. Define all non-printable text fields before defining printable ones. See
Printable Text
Fields" in Chapter 3 for more information.
4. Define options (copy data, pad data, etc.) as needed. See Chapter 4,
for more information.
