disables the loop mode. If the controller port currently has a preferred loop ID of 126, this
radio button is selected by default.
Set during loop initialization (127) – Use this option to assign the controller port to accept
any available address during loop initialization. If the controller port currently has a preferred
loop ID of 127, this radio button is selected by default.
Click OK to save setting.

10.6 Set remote access

This option lets IBM engineers access the subsystem controller by TELNET. It can be done
from outside of the server room where DS3500 Storage Subsystem is installed, and so IBM
engineer does not need to be physically attached to the special serial management port of
DS3500, which is used for maintenance only.
Note: Leave the Remote Login option disabled if you do not have a specific need or
directions form IBM support. This prevents unauthorized access to your DS3500. Normally,
you only need to enable remote login to debug specific failures, and you will be directed by
your IBM Support Representative in that case.
Select the controller in the Physical pane, right click, and select Remote Login in the menu,
and a new window (Figure 10-16) appears.

Read warning in the window, and select "Enable TELNET..." to set direct remote access to
selected controller. You need to do the same also for second controller.

10.7 Set Ethernet management ports

Setting IP addresses of Ethernet management ports is easy task which can be done in one
configuration window. We briefly describe the procedure for setting IP addresses of Ethernet
management ports in this chapter.
By default, the DS3500 Storage Subsystem will try the BOOTP/DHCP service to request an
IP address. If no BOOTP/DHCP service is found in the network, the controllers revert to fixed
default IP addresses.
