Tip: The current DS3500 firmware levels are listed in the Storage Subsystem Profile.
Clicking each of the individual Download Firmware links in Figure 14-60 also displays the
current firmware levels of the respective components.

Note: The term "Download" in these links means to update the actual firmware on the
hardware. Before starting any of these operations, you must have already obtained or
downloaded the appropriate microcode from the IBM Support web site.
The five download options are:
Download controller firmware - The controller firmware of the DS3500 storage subsystem.
Download controller NVSRAM - The controller NVSRAM is similar to the settings in the
BIOS of a host system. The controller firmware and the NVSRAM are closely related, so
be sure to install the correct combination of the two packages. Although the controller FW
is the same for both single and dual controller models, there is different version of
NVSRAM so always ensure that install the correct single or dual controller version of
NVSRAM. Both Controller Firmware and NVSRAM may be downloaded at the same time.
Download drive firmware - The firmware for the hard disk drives. Host IO must be stopped
during this upgrade.
Download ESM firmware - The firmware of the ESM modules in the EXP3500 expansion
enclosures. This update should be installed before the controller firmware upgrade in
some cases.
Download ESM configuration settings - A file that contains configuration settings for the
drive enclosure ESMs.
These code download options are also accessible from the Advanced  Maintenance 
Download menu as shown in Figure 14-61.
