9.5.8 Copy Services operations

If you select a Logical Drive and right click, you can see four menu items related to Copy
Services (Figure 9-37). Some of these items can be greyed depending on the current
Premium Feature enablement.

The four options are there:
Manage Capacity Settings - for setting FlashCopy repository parameters
Create Copy - for VolumeCopy pair creation
Create Remote Logical Drive Mirror - for Remote Mirror pair creation
Create FlashCopy Logical Drive - for FlashCopy creation
In this book we describe operations and configurations related to standard Logical Drives, but
in Logical pane tree you can find also some special Logical Drives used for Advanced Copy
Services. All the settings related to Copy Services can be found in IBM Midrange System
Storage Copy Services Guide, SG24-7822.

9.5.9 Delete and Rename

To rename a Logical Drive you must use unique name, not used for other object in managed
DS3500 Storage Subsystem. Renaming has no influence on IO operations and connection to
hosts. Renaming will impact the SMcli scripts that may be used, as Logical Drive related
commands uses the name of Logical Drive in syntax.
When you delete the Logical Drive, the free space remains as a separate island as shown in
Figure 9-38 on page 261. This free space can be used to create a new Logical Drive of equal
or smaller size than this free space. Process of defragmentation of the array can eliminate the
free capacity islands. See Chapter 14, "Administration - Support" on page 337 for more
information.
