20.1 DS3500 SAS storage configuration on SLES 11 using
RDAC
In this section we discuss how to add a logical drive to an SLES 11 using DS3500 SAS
storage using RDAC multipath driver
20.1.1 Preparing for the installation
For our setup, we used the following hardware and software components:
HS21 BladeServer.
Dual Port 6 Gbps SAS HBA.
Two SAS Connectivity Modules
DS3500 Storage Subsystem
A management workstation running the latest version of DS Storage Manager.
The latest version IBM RDAC drivers for Linux.
SuSE Linux Enterprise 11
DS3500 Controller A
SAS Conectivity

Only in SAS configurations, zoning configuration is not necessary except when booting from a
SAS Storage. Like in this case, zoning is not required and we are attaching a logical drive to
an operating system that is already installed on local hard disks.
The following are recommendations before mapping the logical drive(s) to the server:
Check the compatibility in IBM System Storage Interoperation Center(SSIC) web site
(http://www-03.ibm.com/systems/support/storage/config/ssic) to be sure it is a
supported environment and also to be sure which multipath driver is needed (RDAC,
MPIO, DMM, etc). The SSIC can provide the interoperability matrix, and is a selection
driven tool where you provide the criteria for your configuration.
