Note: The default host type is also host type for the Default Host Group, that is used for all
host ports which are not assigned to storage partitions yet (see unassociated host ports in
section "View ® Unassociated Host Port Identifiers" on page 197. It means no hosts are
defined yet for these host ports in Mapping Tab. We do not recommend to use the Default
Host Group for regular logical drive mappings as more different hosts (with different
operating systems) can have shared access to LUNs assigned to default host group and
this can result in data loss on these LUNs.
Failover Alert Delay
A failover alert delay can be specified on DS3500 storage subsystem. It can delay the logging
of a critical event if the multipath failover driver transfers Logical Drive to the non-preferred
controller of the subsystem. If the multipath driver transfers the logical drives back to the
preferred controller within the specified delay period, no critical event is logged. If the transfer
exceeds this delay period, then an alert is issued as a critical event.
Select Storage Subsystem  Change  Failover Alert Delay menu item, and in the
window as in Figure 8-18, you can set different period in the range of 0-60 minutes. The
default failover delay is 5 minutes.

Note: If the ownership transfers back to preferred controller within delay period, only the
critical alert notification is not sent. A "Needs Attention" status is displayed immediately
and the Recovery Guru shows details about that. See Chapter 14, "Administration -
Support" on page 337 for more details about alert sending.
Time-out Setting
Select this menu item to change password inactivity time-out. A new strong rules for Storage
Manager password was introduced in version 10.70 where the DS Storage Manger
Subsystem Manger is locked after selected period of inactivity time. Default time-out is 30
minutes and if no activity in Storage Manager is recognized in this period, the password must
be entered again to continue with configuration. It can be changed to the shortest period of 1
minute or to the longest period of 2 hours. You can also set the time-out period to "Never" to
disable the time-out feature.
Select Storage Subsystem  Change  Time-out Setting. Move pointer (in window
Figure 8-19 on page 208) to required value and set new time-out for password.
