Removing an M320 PIC

PICs are hot-insertable and hot-removable. When you remove a PIC, the router continues
to function, although the PIC interfaces being removed no longer function.
The PICs are located in the FPCs installed in the front of the router. A PIC weighs less
than 2 lb (0.9 kg).
To remove a PIC (see Figure 94 on page 182):
Place an electrostatic bag or antistatic mat on a flat, stable surface to receive the
1.
PIC. If the PIC connects to fiber-optic cable, have ready a rubber safety cap for each
transceiver and cable.
Attach an electrostatic discharge ESD grounding strap to your bare wrist, and connect
2.
the strap to one of the ESD points on the chassis.
Use one of the following methods to take the PIC offline:
3.
Press and hold the online/offline button until the PIC LED goes out (about 5
seconds).
For a PIC installed in an FPC1, use a tool—such as a flat-blade screwdriver—to press
the button slightly beneath the faceplate of the PIC. For a PIC installed in an FPC2
or FPC3, use a narrow-ended tool that fits inside the opening that leads to the
button.
Issue the following CLI command:
user@host> request chassis pic fpc-slot fpc-slot pic-slot pic-slot offline
