The M320 router uses either AC or DC power supplies. The router is configurable with
two, three, or four AC power supplies or two or four DC power supplies. The power supplies
connect to the midplane, which distributes the different output voltages produced by
the power supplies to the router components, depending on their voltage requirements.
All power supplies are hot-removable and hot-insertable. Each power supply is cooled
by its own internal cooling system.
CAUTION: Mixing AC and DC power supplies is not supported and prevents
the router from powering on.

In the AC power configuration, the router contains two to four load-sharing AC power
supplies (see Figure 17 on page 34), which are located at the lower rear of the chassis in
slots
through
PEM0
PEM3
functional power supplies to operate.
To provide power redundancy, you can upgrade the number of AC power supplies from
two to three or from three to four. Each AC power supply provides power to all
components in the router, as opposed to the DC power configuration (see "M320 DC
Power Supply" on page 34 for more information). Three AC power supplies provide full
(top to bottom). The router requires a minimum of two fully
