D rive ch ain a d ju stm en t
C arry out the cleaning operations as described in the periodical m a intenance
card . C heck the chain tension adjusting and lubricate it if necessary.
T he chain is adjusted correctly w h en the m oto rc ycle is in vertical position and
unloaded, as sho w n on figure. If n ot, adjust the chain as follow s:
- loosen the nut (1) of the w heel a xle;
- loosen the nuts (2) on b oth sides of the chain-adju sters then operate the
adjusting screw s (3) till the correct tension is restored (m ake sure th at both
the chain streighteners are aligne d on the sam e n otch);
- tighten the nu ts (2) (22,5 N m / 2,3 K gm / 16.6 lb-ft);
- tighten nut (1) o f the w heel a xle (142 N m / 14,5 K g m / 104.8 lb-ft);
- check again the chain tension.
A fter the adjustm ent, alw a ys chec k the w heel alignm ent and tighten the w heel
axle fully. B efore lubricating the chain clean it carefully. O n dusty ro ads,
or in poor road c onditions, m ore frequent lub rication is necessary.
